President Trump sat down on Sunday with Fox & Friends, where he discussed his thoughts about the shocking guilty verdict out of the New York City hush money trial last week, his plan to appeal the conviction, and how the trial has affected his dearest family members.
“I think in many ways it’s tougher on them than it is on me,” the president said. “They’re good people – all of them, everyone…I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time. They do that for this reason.”
He elaborated that the reason was to “create havoc.”
“It’s tougher on my family than it is on me,” he added. “…She’s fine [Melania], but I think it’s very hard for her…she has to read all this crap.”
When asked how his youngest son, Barron Trump, was handling the intensity of the trial, the verdict, and the potential fallout, the president said that the youngest Trump was “amazing” and “cool, pretty cool” about what was happening.
The president also shared that his son is applying to colleges just after graduating from high school in May.
Upon sentencing, which is scheduled for July 11, 2024, the president could potentially face jail time. “I’m okay with it,” he told Fox.
He also said that he told his lawyers not to attempt to “beg” to get him out of a potential jail term, either. “You don’t beg for anything,” Trump explained.
President Trump pointed out that “everyone tells me this is the easiest case they’ve ever seen to overturn, but they don’t care because they want it to last until after the election.”
The president further addressed his popularity among Hispanic voters, noting the similarity between legal persecution in Latin American countries and the political attacks and prosecutorial strategies aimed at him during a critical election year.
He concluded, “They’ve always liked me, and I’ve always liked them – you know, I’ve done well from the beginning. In 2016, I won the entire border along Texas…now I’m leading over this guy, this guy that can’t put two sentences together [Joe Biden].”
