Attorney General Pam Bondi has reversed a memo issued by the Biden administration which targeted parents as domestic terrorists. The memo was issued in October 2021 and used by the Biden Department of Justice to investigate parents who expressed concerns related to their children’s education and the conduct of school boards.
The controversial memo caused a backlash among Republicans at the time. Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Oh., was active in exposing the actions of the Biden DOJ, including the activation of FBI counterterrorism units to investigate parents who protested at school board meetings.
In her memo reversing the actions of the Biden administration, AG Bondi stressed the importance of investigating political prosecutions and regaining the trust of the American people.
Bondi stated the DOJ “must take immediate and overdue steps to restore integrity and credibility with the public that we are charged with protecting.”
The memo cited President Trump’s Executive Order on Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government which was issued on his first day in office.
The order criticized the Biden administration for engaging in “a systematic campaign against its perceived political opponents.”
In response to the Executive Order issued by President Trump, AG Bondi established a Weaponization Working Group to be tasked with investigating potential abuses of power and weaponization of law enforcement by the Biden administration.
Bondi specifically addressed the treatment of school board parents in her memo, stating the Weaponization Working Group would be looking into the Biden administration’s “practices concerning the investigation of parents of school children who expressed sincere, good-faith concerns at local government meetings.”
Bondi also included a footnote for clarity which explicitly rescinded the memo issued by Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland.
