The U.S. House candidate backed by President Trump is handily ahead of “RINO” Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., according to the Wyoming Republican State Central Committee’s straw poll.
71 representatives in the committee participated in the straw poll vote, and an overwhelming majority of them backed the Trump-endorsed Republican Harriet Hageman.
Hageman received 83 percent support to Cheney’s distant eight percent, according to the poll (59 votes to six votes).
“I think it’s a good sign. It’s not an endorsement, but these are the county activists,” Hageman told the Casper Star-Tribune.
“There will be lots of polls over the next eight months, and they will all show different things,” she added.
Trump endorsed Hageman in September in response to the incumbent Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who voted with nine other “RINO” Republicans to impeach Trump over the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol Building.
Cheney, along with Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., also preside on the Jan. 6 House Select Committee investigating the events.
The Wyoming’s central committee already voted in November to no longer recognize the representative as a member of the Republican Party following her staunch efforts to block Trump from holding office in the future.
Cheney’s approval rating also fell to 19 percent in October, according to a Remington Research Group poll, a sign she is losing almost all support among her constituents.
Wyoming’s 2022 primaries will occur on Aug. 16, 2022.
