President Donald Trump has officially removed Pam Bondi from her position as attorney general.
The president announced the shake-up in a post to Truth Social, writing that she will be “transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector.”
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” he wrote in his post Thursday afternoon. “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900.”
He continued, “We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The move comes shortly after a Fox News report that suggested the president had already fired Bondi ahead of his Wednesday speech to the nation about the Iran war.
Two unnamed sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that the now-former attorney general met with the president in the Oval Office, where he informed Bondi of her termination.
One of the sources claimed that by the time the speech began, Bondi was already fired and was en route to Florida.
In his Thursday Truth Social announcement, the president did not clarify why Bondi was being removed.
While Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has officially taken over as acting attorney general, the president has not yet said who he will appoint to fill the position.
However, sources suggest that he is considering nominating Environmental Protection Agency Director Lee Zeldin. The president already held a meeting with Zeldin at the White House Tuesday to discuss wildfire and prevention, where talks of the transition also unfolded, according to sources.
