President Donald Trump is not only projected to win the electoral vote in the 2024 presidential election, but is expected to become the first Republican in two decades to win the popular vote.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump has 72,368,814 votes while Vice President Kamala Harris has 67,627,690, according to Decision Desk HQ.
The last Republican to win the popular vote was former President George W. Bush in 2004, Newsweek reported. Bush won over 62 million votes, beating Democratic nominee John Kerry who won 59 million votes.
Trump is also only the second president in American history to win a second non-consecutive term. Grover Cleveland won a first term in 1884, later winning a second term in 1892 after a four-year gap.
As RSBN previously reported, Trump was projected as the winner of the presidential election shortly after he was predicted to win Pennsylvania. The total gave him 267 electoral votes. Combined with Alaska’s expected three additional electoral votes, the total of 270 secured the decision.
Decision Desk HQ has called all states except Arizona. Trump currently stands at 301 projected electoral votes, with Harris at 226.
He currently leads in Arizona which would end with him receiving 312 electoral votes.
“This was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. There’s never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond. And now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal,” Trump told supporters early Wednesday morning in Florida, RSBN previously reported.
“We’re going to help our country here. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country and we’ve made history for a reason tonight. And the reason is going to be just that. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” he added.
Trump predicted a new “golden age” for America under his leadership, alongside a GOP majority in the Senate and likely majority in the House.
“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you. And with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America. That’s what we have to have. This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again,” he stated.
