Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has once again raised a ruckus on social media, moving to criticize President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” as it nears the legislative finish line – and the 47th president has wasted no time in swinging back with force.

“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign,” Trump wrote on Truth Social late Monday night.

His comment came as a response to Musk’s critical opposition to the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which the president hopes to sign by July 4, if passed in the Senate and approved by the House.

Musk said on X that “every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase I history should hang their head in shame!”

He also vowed to ensure these congressmen and women would “lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Musk also proposed creating the “America Party” to split from the GOP if the legislation passes this week, arguing that the “Democrat-Republican uniparty” needed to be broken up.

President Trump’s comments on Truth Social strongly suggest that he believes Musk feels spurned because his administration does not support the electric vehicle mandate – a mandate that would have financially benefited Tesla’s electric car manufacturing.

However, the president is correct in his initial claim: he often voiced his opposition to the EV mandate during his 2023 and 2024 reelection campaigns. While speaking in New Jersey last year, for example, he declared, “On day ONE, I will immediately eliminate Joe Biden’s insane electric vehicle mandate.”

On Truth Social this week, Trump noted that Musk “may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

He added, “No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
