On his first day off from court this week, President Trump took to Truth Social to express the importance of immunity for presidents, who must have the freedom to make difficult decisions.
He published a post on Wednesday, stating his opponent, Joe Biden, should support presidential immunity more than anyone else, considering his many disastrous failures in office that have cost Americans dearly.
“Crooked Joe Biden wants PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY to be protected perhaps more than any other living (barely!) individual,” Trump began, “because if it isn’t, and having absolutely nothing to do with me, he will surely be Indicted and Tried for many of his Dishonest, illegal, or Incompetent Actions (Afghanistan disaster, Southern Border catastrophe!).”
Make no mistake, Republicans are coming for Joe Biden, which is evidenced by the ongoing Biden impeachment inquiry, which focuses on Joe Biden’s shady family business dealings involving his son, Hunter. Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has also called for Biden’s impeachment over the southern border crisis and his botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Both crises have directly resulted in the bloodshed of many innocent Americans.
Biden vowed on the campaign trail to review the Department of Justice’s policy that presidents are immune from indictment for crimes committed in office, according to the New York Times. To put it simply, he has not kept that promise. Now that he could face charges himself, he will likely continue looking the other way on presidential immunity.
President Trump closed his statement, adding, “A President should not be placed in that position – MUST BE FREE TO MAKE DECISIONS, HOPEFULLY CORRECT ONES!”
The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in Trump’s immunity case on Thursday, April 25.
Justices will consider “whether and if so, to what extent does a former President enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office.” Their decision will determine whether Trump can be tried on Special Prosecutor Jack Smith’s criminal charges that President Trump conspired to overturn the 2020 election results.
On the day the news broke that the Supreme Court would take up the case, President Trump made an especially compelling statement on Truth Social.
“A President has to be free to determine what is right for our Country without undue pressure. If there is no Immunity, the Presidency, as we know it, will ‘no longer exist.’ Many actions for the benefit of our Country will not be taken. This is in no way what the Founders had in mind. Legal Experts and Scholars have stated that the President must have Full Presidential Immunity. A President must be free to make proper decisions. His mind must be clear, and he must not be guided by the fear of retribution!”
