President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has chosen Kash Patel as FBI director.
Trump revealed the selection in a post on his Truth Social account over the weekend.
“I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump wrote.
“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution. Kash did an incredible job during my First Term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council,” he continued.
Trump also addressed the importance Patel will play in ending migrant crime and drug trafficking along the southern border.
“Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials. This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border. Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,” he concluded.
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz expressed his support for Patel during a Sunday interview with CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”
“I think Kash Patel is a very strong nominee… I believe every one of these cabinet nominees is going to be confirmed by the Senate,” he said.
Florida Rep. Mike Waltz, who was selected by Trump as National Security Advisor, added his praise for Trump’s pick.
“Kash Patel has served in senior roles at the Pentagon, National Security Council, ODNI, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and as a federal prosecutor. The FBI headquarters in Washington, DC needs reform. Kash is the man to drive that agenda!” Waltz wrote.
Former National Security Advisor Rober O’Brien agreed. “Kash Patel served a Snr. Director for counterterrorism when I was National Security Advisor. I was able to count on him to get any job done no matter how complex or difficult the task. He handled some of the nation’s most sensitive issues with care and discretion. From assisting President Trump in the take down of ISIS and bringing justice to Kayla Mueller’s murderer – al Baghdadi – to risking his life in Syria for hostage Austin Tice, Kash Patel fought for America.”
