Turner posted about his new role on X on Tuesday. He wrote, “I’m so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement from each of you! I’m looking forward to serving. Great days ahead for the USA!”
According to the America First Policy Institute, Turner served as a Texas State Representative and is a current chairman for the AFPI’s Center for Education Opportunity. He is a fierce proponent of school choice who also works as a motivational speaker.
In 2021, he founded The Community Engagement & Opportunity Council (CEOC), an organization “Created to transform America’s most distressed communities through economic development and community impact.”
Childhood literacy is a main focus of the CEOC, as are faith-based learning practices.
President Trump announced his nomination on Friday in a post to Truth Social, noting their work together during his first term. He highlighted how Turner worked with Former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson to “Further Economic Development,” and increasing Opportunity Zone funding.
“Scott will work alongside me to Make America Great Again for EVERY American,” Trump concluded.
