President Donald Trump announced the nomination of NFL great Herschel Walker as his ambassador to the Bahamas.

Trump shared the announcement on his Truth Social account on Tuesday.

“Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad,” he wrote.

“A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports. During my First Term, he served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Herschel has traveled to over 400 Military installations around the World, removing the stigma surrounding mental health. He represented the United States at the 1992 Winter Olympics as a member of the U.S. bobsled team,” he continued.

“Congratulations Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!” Trump concluded.

Walker previously ran for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022 where Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated him.

Trump previously backed Walker during his Senate runoff race, stating, “To the Great State of Georgia, Get Out and Vote for the WONDERFUL Herschel Walker TOMORROW,” the president wrote on Monday. “Herschel was a fantastic Athlete, and he will be an even greater United States Senator! To all MAGA Voters, that is, people that want to Make America Great Again and Put America First, tomorrow is a big day. Vote for Herschel!”

He added, “IMPORTANT: Tomorrow has become TODAY. To the Great State of Georgia, VOTE TODAY FOR HERSCHEL, he will never let you down!”

Walker, 62, was a football legend at the University of Georgia, where he dominated the gridiron for three seasons and won the prestigious Heisman Trophy as the nation’s top college football player in 1982.

He went on to play 15 seasons in the NFL, including time with the Dallas Cowboys before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in a high-profile 1989 deal. Walker also had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants.

In addition to his NFL career, he played three seasons with the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League, a team once owned by Donald Trump before the league folded.
