Much speculation has surrounded who President Donald Trump will choose to be his 2024 vice presidential running mate, and on Wednesday night, he announced that he had already made a decision on who that person would be.

During an appearance on a Fox News town hall in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump initially told hosts and anchors Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier on the issue of who would be his running mate, “Well, I can’t tell you that, really.”

He then added, “I mean, I know WHO it’s going to be.”

When pressed to give a hint about who he may be considering, he stated, “We’ll do another show sometime.”

Typically, presidential candidates wait until the general election gets closer to announce their choice for a running mate. In 2016, Trump waited until July 15 to reveal that he had chosen then-Republican Governor of Indiana Mike Pence as his running mate.

This time around, former Vice President Mike Pence has hardly scored any popularity points among Trump supporters in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.

Now, President Trump is speculated to be looking amongst a pool of tried-and-true allies headed into the 2024 presidential election in November.

Some names that have been floated in the media are Dr. Ben Carson, Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., and Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, R-Ark. Some conservatives have even suggested media personality and journalist Tucker Carlson as a potential vice-presidential pick, although that seems unlikely.

President Trump has been tight-lipped about his decision on a vice-presidential running mate thus far, but voters can likely expect an announcement from the president on his decision over the summer.
