President Donald Trump means business when it comes to holding California Governor Gavin Newsom accountable for a transgender athlete who is poised to compete in a women’s state track competition, especially after the governor himself has admitted that men competing in women’s sports is “an issue of fairness.”
“California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS,’” President Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.
This comes just a few months after Trump signed an executive order banning men from women’s sports by leveraging the power of federal funding to squelch states that are in non-compliance with this order.
The athlete President Trump is referring to this week is a biological male who won first place over the weekend at a CIF track championship in California, according to Fox News. This individual will reportedly compete in the state championship against other women.
“As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS,” the president wrote in his statement.
In February, Trump’s executive order put schools receiving federal dollars “on notice,” promising investigations for potential violations of Title 9 if they allowed transgender athletes in women’s sports and spaces.
“Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to. The Governor, himself, said it is ‘UNFAIR,’” Trump continued on Tuesday.
In March, Gov. Newsom did indeed criticize male intrusion in women’s sports, calling it “an issue of fairness” in comments made during a podcast interview with Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk.
“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that,” Newsom said. “So, that’s easy to call out, the unfairness of that.”
President Trump said he would be having a phone call with Gov. Newsom on Tuesday to speak about this situation, and noted that he had ordered local authorities to block the transgender athlete in question from competing in the state finals, if necessary.
“This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!” he said.
