President Donald Trump told Todd Starnes during a radio interview on Thursday that he would be joining D.C. law enforcement on a patrol amid the federal crackdown on violent crime in the district.
“President Trump tells me that he’s going out on patrol tonight with DC law enforcement and the military,” Starnes wrote on X while previewing an interview with the president.
Trump’s comments were confirmed by multiple outlets shortly after.
“I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military, of course. We’re going to do a job,” Trump told Starnes.
The president’s anticipated ride-along comes as his federal takeover of D.C. has yielded optimal results in fighting crime.
As reported by RSBN, there has been a dramatic reduction in violent crime, carjacking, car theft, and robbery in the city in the one week since the president implemented control over the city and deployed the National Guard.
There has been a 22 percent drop in violent crime and an eight percent drop in “all crimes,” according to the D.C. Police Union.
Currently, Trump’s federal takeover – facilitated by the invocation of Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act – stands to last 30 days, unless Congress passes a bill to extend the president’s control.
Per RSBN, legislation was introduced last week that would allow the president to extend the state of emergency in the city and, therefore, maintain control of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.
According to Attorney General Pam Bondi, these federal efforts to secure D.C. have so far resulted in 630 arrests.
“53 arrests were made yesterday, plus 24 ICE arrests and 10 guns taken off the streets,” she said in a statement on Thursday.
Bondi continued, “Our incredible @USMarshalsHQ even helped recover a missing child. Our mission to make DC safe again isn’t slowing down.”
The president’s upcoming Thursday evening patrol in D.C. has drawn broad praise from supporters on social media.
Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk wrote, “Shock and awe. Force. We’re taking our country back from these cockroaches. Just the start.”
