President Donald Trump is already making progress to secure the nation’s borders more than 30 days before his return to the White House.
Trump’s transition team shared updates on his early progress in a news release on Wednesday.
“Last month, President Trump — fresh off his decisive electoral victory — delivered an ultimatum to our northern and southern neighbors: secure your borders or face a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States,” the statement read.
“It didn’t take long for Canada to heed President Trump’s warning. Facing an uproar among his own citizens, embattled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just announced a billion-dollar plan for major border security improvements and increased border patrols in an effort to stem the flow of illegal immigration, human trafficking, and deadly drugs into the United States,” the Trump team’s statement continued.
The communication also highlighted efforts Trump is putting into place for Mexico related to America’s southern border.
“Mexico has been put on notice, too. Mere days after President Trump made the promise, Mexican authorities announced its largest-ever fentanyl bust in a cartel-dominated region of the country — deadly drugs that likely would’ve ended up in American communities,” the statement noted.
“After four years of a Biden-induced crisis, in which criminals, terrorists, and deadly drugs have poured across the borders in record numbers, President Trump is making good on his mandate for sweeping change,” it added.
The actions are part of what Trump’s team calls, “Promises made, promises kept,” noting that the border is far from the only example.
“In just six weeks, President Trump has made major progress in advancing international peace, propelling economic growth, dismantling divisive social programming, and bolstering American investment,” the statement concluded.
The statement also came just after Trump told the Biden administration on Monday to stop selling off portions of the border wall, calling the action “almost a criminal act.” Trump shared the concern in a video posted to his Truth Social account.
“Now it’s about double the price of what it would’ve been six years ago, and the administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar… It’s almost a criminal act,” he stated.
“I’m asking today, Joe Biden to please stop selling the wall. We’re going to use that to create a strong barrier,” Trump continued.
“It’s very expensive, and now it’s about double the price of what it would have been six years ago, and the administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar, knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up,” Trump added.
