President Donald Trump discussed the impact of Erie, Pennsylvania, on the political landscape in 2016 and 2020, teasing his upcoming Saturday rally in the state while on-air with Real America’s Voice.
“Well, I’ve done really well there,” Trump said. “Erie used to be a Democrat stronghold, and I came along, and I got a vast amount of the votes. And we won, as you know; we won Pennsylvania for the first time in many, many decades, I guess.”
As reported by RSBN, President Trump carried all 67 counties in Pennsylvania in the presidential primary in 2016, according to his campaign. He also was the first Republican to win Pennsylvania in 28 years in 2016.
During his conversation on RAV, Trump pointed out that in 2020, he got “millions more votes than I got the first election.”
On Saturday, Trump will travel to Erie and host a signature Make America Great Again Rally, which is expected to draw thousands of eager supporters of the president’s 2024 presidential reelection campaign.
Pennsylvania represents 19 electoral votes in the general election. Therefore, Trump’s rally in the Keystone State could perhaps represent the kickoff of a more streamlined strategy from his campaign to shift focus from the GOP primary battle to November’s anticipated Election Day.
In the Republican primary race, Trump is the overwhelming favorite to win the nomination in 2024. New data from FiveThirtyEight, for example, found in July that the president had his biggest advantage ever over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), with Trump holding 52.4 percent of GOP primary support compared to DeSantis’s 15.5 percent.
Another primary poll from Big Valley revealed that Trump had earned a whopping 61 percent of nationwide GOP primary support while DeSantis held only 14 percent. This represents a 5-point increase for Trump from June in their poll and a 1-point loss for the Florida governor.
