President Donald Trump shared his support for Elon Musk on social media overnight, saying he plans to buy a Tesla as some on the left push for a boycott of the company.
Trump shared the update in a post to his Truth Social post early Tuesday morning.
“To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for,” Trump wrote.
“They tried to do it to me at the 2024 Presidential Ballot Box, but how did that work out? In any event, I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American. Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???” he added.
Tesla car owners, dealerships and charging stations across the country have been targeted by protesters in response to Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration’s newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
On Saturday, protesters gathered outside Tesla dealerships, holding signs condemning Musk and DOGE. Last week, gunshots fired by protesters damaged vehicles and windows at a Tesla dealership in Oregon.
In Salem, Oregon, a man was arrested after Molotov cocktails were thrown at a Tesla dealership. Several Tesla charging stations in Massachusetts have been set on fire, and in Colorado, federal authorities charged a suspect after police discovered explosives and concerning messages at a Tesla dealership.
Musk’s support for Trump during last year’s presidential election and his current leadership with DOGE has sparked significant backlash. Analysts point to this shift as a key factor in Tesla’s stock struggles, which saw its worst trading day since 2020 on Monday.
In an interview on Monday, Musk acknowledged the impact on his businesses, admitting he was managing them “with great difficulty” due to his high-profile role in the administration.
