President Donald Trump blasted FEMA’s emergency response after Hurricane Helene destroyed homes and businesses in rural North Carolina, during his first stop to tour the devastation in North Carolina.
Trump said during his remarks, “FEMA doesn’t know the area. They want to give people [who] aren’t as good as you have. You can go back to Louisiana and Texas. The state should fix this.”
“I’ll also be signing an Executive Order to begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA — or maybe getting rid of FEMA. I think when you have a problem like this, I think you want to… use your state to fix it and not waste time,” President Trump said.
During his briefing, Trump advocated for either cutting down or eliminating FEMA. His alternative measure is to give the state control in disaster relief back to the state governor and state officials, instead of FEMA’s mishandling of disaster relief management.
The 47th president further highlighted in giving “significant federal aid, we are going to turn it all around” to the people of North Carolina being hit the hardest.
With this huge announcement, Trump focused on the fact the significant aid would come directly from the federal government, not through FEMA. Trump stood behind the families by visiting the rebuilding efforts of North Carolina, which was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Trump stated his message to the victims, “You are NOT FORGOTTEN any longer.”
North Carolinians told the sitting president, many residents still do not have adequate hot water or drinking water, while roads and bridges are still destroyed.
Trump displayed true leadership by listening to the people in a disaster that happened months ago, while the Biden administration barely did anything.
