President Donald Trump announced Monday morning that his trial in New York against writer E. Jean Carroll is delayed, according to a social media post.
Trump took to Truth Social on Monday, stating that after he had “traveled late last night” from New Hampshire, one of the jurors was not feeling well, consequently delaying the hearing.
“I traveled late last night from the Great State of New Hampshire to New York to attend one of the many Crooked Joe Biden-inspired Witch Hunt trials,” Trump stated.
“Despite the fact that I was there, on time and on schedule, it was just learned that one of the jurors is, unfortunately, not feeling well, and for that reason, today’s session of the trial, having to do with a woman I know absolutely nothing about, has therefore been cancelled with a new date to be determined,” he continued.
Trump continued to call out the trial, stating that he is not only innocent but questioning why the trials are appearing “in the middle” of an election cycle.
“Of course, all of these various “Biden Political Opponent” trials just happen to be starting, with great purpose, in the middle of what will be the most important Election in the History of our Country. They could have all began years ago, or years after, but, certainly not DURING the Election. In actuality, they should have never been brought at all, because I have done nothing wrong,” Trump stated.
The second trial between Carroll and Trump was brought forward by the writer after she had won a lawsuit against Trump over comments made in 2022, according to CBS News. Carroll was previously awarded $5 million in May 2023 after a jury found Trump liable for defamation and sexual abuse, the outlet reported.
While the current case regarding Trump’s comments made in 2019 has already been determined to be defamatory based on the precedent set, the jury is now attempting to determine the damages that the former president must pay Carroll, CBS News reported.
A new date for the hearing has yet to be determined.
