The U.S. murder rate has taken a nosedive amid President Donald Trump’s continued crime crackdown across the nation.
According to Axios, 2025 is on pace to display the largest single-year decrease in murder rates on record. The national murder rate has dropped 19.5 percent under the new Trump administration policies that are directed to Make America Safe Again.
Car theft crimes have decreased the most this year, dropping 23.2 percent. Other major crimes like robbery, burglary, and property damage also saw significant decreases. Violent crime, rape, theft, and aggravated assault met lower but substantial drops.
The White House’s Safe Communities directive has been fueled by the 47th president’s commitment to holding criminals accountable. This led to federal policing of cities with the highest crime rates. It started in Washington, D.C., and dropped violent crime in the area by 40 percent.
Los Angeles, Memphis, Chicago, and New Orleans have all received federal support to clean up crime. These efforts are now displaying a massive impact, leading to what is projected to become the largest drop in murder rates within one year.
