With Valentine’s Day 2026 approaching, regular gasoline prices will hit their lowest levels nationwide for Cupid’s Day in five years.
AAA Fuel Price estimates that a gallon of regular-grade gasoline will cost $2.94 per gallon—down over 18 cents since Valentine’s Day 2025.
Likewise, regular fuel prices on Valentine’s Day have dropped 45 cents from their peak of $3.39 per gallon during the mid-February 2023 season.
This year’s price decrease reflects a broader trend in fuel prices under the Trump administration, as the average cost of regular gas per gallon has declined by more than 16 cents since the president took office on Jan. 20, 2025.
Americans’ pocketbooks were hit hard by rising fuel costs under the Biden administration. Prices reached their highest in early June 2022, at one point rising to a nationwide average of $4.876 per gallon.
Since Joe Biden left office, President Trump has implemented a series of oil-friendly policies to deliver on his 2024 campaign promise to “drill baby, drill.”
The president issued thousands of new drilling permits for oil and gas on public lands in just under a year—or a 55 percent increase, E&E News reported.
Likewise, he reopened lands to oil and gas drilling that had been previously limited under the Biden administration.
