President Donald Trump received a big endorsement on Sunday from North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), who announced his public support of the president’s 2024 reelection bid at Trump’s final Iowa caucus rally event ahead of Monday’s anticipated Iowa caucuses.
“Today I’m here to do something that none of the other [GOP] presidential candidates have done – and that’s endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States of America,” Gov. Burgum announced after taking the podium alongside Trump in Indianola.
For reference, Gov. Burgum is the first governor who has dropped out of the GOP presidential race and gone on to endorse President Donald Trump. Former GOP candidates Larry Elder, who is a radio personality in California, and businessman Perry Johnson both endorsed Trump last year after ending their 2024 presidential bids.
Gov. Burgum explained that he had had the opportunity to “have a front row seat” for President Donald Trump’s leadership style, witnessing it as both a “business leader and as a governor.”
He noted that with Trump in the White House, the “heartland” of America was respected.
“America needs a 180 degree change in the direction that Joe Biden has taken us,” Burgum continued.
Burgum also commented that with Trump at the helm of America once again, he’ll “deliver energy dominance,” hammering home how important that message is among heartland voters.
A victory in Iowa on Monday in the caucuses, Gov. Burgum added, would “send a message to the nation and send a message to the world that Donald J. Trump will make America GREAT again.”
Gov. Burgum previously ran a short-lived GOP presidential campaign in the 2024 primary race before suspending his efforts in Dec. 2023. His support for President Donald Trump is a big win for the president’s campaign in the American heartland.
