Border czar Tom Homan said Thursday that the Trump administration has succeeded in establishing a secure border. Homan sat down for a roundtable discussion with Florida Republican Gov. Ron Desantis in which he detailed the administration’s various achievements on immigration policy.
Homan said under President Trump there have been 40,000 arrests of people who had entered the country illegally. He compared the approach of the Trump administration to that of President Biden, pointing out that the Biden administration did not allow arrests for people who were present illegally.
President Trump shared Homan’s border update in a Thursday post on Truth Social.
“We did in six weeks what Joe Biden refused to do in four years,” Homan said. “What we needed was a new president who took border security seriously and that’s what we have in President Trump.
Homan has pointed out the 96 percent decline in border crossings since President Trump took office and emphasized how the decrease impacted national security.
“When you have a 96% decline in illegal border crossings…how many women and children aren’t being sexually assaulted by the cartels? How many children aren’t dying crossing that border? How many pounds of fentanyl is not getting into this country to kill Americans?” Homan said. “A secure border saves lives, and that’s what President Trump has done. We are saving lives by the thousands.”
Despite the success of the administration’s border policy, Homan stressed that more must be done and restated his commitment to achieving Trump’s border goals.
“We’ve arrested about three times more than Biden did in one month…that’s not enough. We need ten times more because he wasn’t doing squat,” Homan said.
Homan said the media had questioned whether he was happy with the numbers.
“I’m happy, but I’m not satisfied,” Homan said. “We’re not going to rest, I’m not going to sleep well at night, until every public safety threat illegal alien is eradicated from this country.”
