Dr. Ben Carson shared his thoughts about the character and common sense of President Donald Trump this week during an interview on “The Kimberly Guilfoyle Show.”

He defended the Trump administration, explaining, “The previous administration did things that MADE SENSE. We had energy, we became energy-independent. He [Trump] was not against green, renewable energy, but recognized that the way to get there was to use what you have – use what you have to get what you want.”

Dr. Carson described Trump’s unifying leadership, stating, “One of the most important things about Donald Trump is that he believed a rising tide lifts all boats.”

The respected conservative and retired neurosurgeon also touched on the importance of the Judeo-Christian heritage of America, and how his faith tied in closely to his beliefs and his work in the country over the years.

He stated, “First of all, there is nothing in the Constitution that mentions separation of church and state. That came about by Thomas Jefferson as he was trying to assure the state that the church would not interfere with it and visa-versa.”

Carson was referring to a letter that Jefferson sent to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802, in which he discussed a “wall of separation of Church & State.” The comment has long been taken out of context and generally misconstrued.

He added, “Our Judeo-Christian values are very important to this country. Our very founding document, the Declaration of Independence, talks about certain inalienable rights given to us by our CREATOR…and that He’s the only one that can take the rights away because He gave them to us.”

Dr. Carson also emphasized the importance of loving your neighbor and not hating them “if they have a different yard sign than you.”

“We need the kind of leadership that doesn’t divide people into identity segments,” he continued.

Carson has endorsed President Donald Trump’s 2024 reelection bid and has strongly campaigned for him in the 2024 GOP primary. Amid some conservative circles, he is rumored to be on a potential vice-presidential shortlist on Trump’s 2024 ticket.

When asked by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo if he had been tapped to be the president’s running mate, Carson replied last month, “I don’t want to talk about what we’ve talked about, but we’ve talked about what we can do to save this country and that we will work together to make sure that America remains America.”
