Former California State Senate Democratic Majority Leader Gloria Romero is the latest Democrat to walk away from the party.
The Trump War Room shared a clip of her Fox News interview from Thursday that explained how she decided to join Republicans and endorse President Donald Trump. She said, “It’s been a long time coming.”
Romero explained that the decision began with, “The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.” She said that she no longer recognizes the Democrat party because they “march towards war, towards censorship, towards authoritarianism.”
She also noted that Democrats refuse to embrace school choice and educational freedom, referring to the concern as a deal breaker.
“It became a party that moved so far to the left that neither myself, Tulsi Gabbard, Leo Turrel, Robert F. Kennedy Jr…. I’m amongst the latest that just say, ‘Me too,’ I can’t take it anymore,” she added.
Last month, RSBN reported that Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the race and endorsed Trump. Within days, former congresswoman and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard also endorsed Trump, per RSBN.
An entire #WalkAway movement was started by former Democrat Brandon Straka, who explained to RSBN that he decided to go public with his decision to leave the party six years ago, sparking a viral wave of other Democrats who have shared their stories of leaving the party.
Romero made her Walk Away announcement at the California State Capitol building on Wednesday. During her speech, posted to X by “The Steve Hilton Show,” she stated, “In this Capitol behind me I served as both Senate Democratic Caucus Chair and the Senate Majority Leader, but today I say good-bye. Adiós. I’ve had enough.”
“I am now another mere life-long Democrat who is joining the growing number of people, including key groups like Latinos, who are leaving the Democratic party,” she continued.
Romero added, “I changed my voting registration today as the sun was rising to Republican, which has, under Donald Trump, become the champion of working people.”
“And indeed, I will vote for Donald Trump,” she concluded.
According to Newsweek, Romero served as a California Democratic State Assembly member for the 49th District and then served the 24th District at the California State Senate between 1998 and 2010. From 2005 to 2008, she was the State Senate Majority Leader.
