In light of the border crisis plaguing the southern border in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott is standing his ground against the Supreme Court and vows to protect the border.
Tensions have risen in the state of Texas since the recent Supreme Court ruled this week that the Biden administration may remove razor wire at the border.
To combat the Biden administration’s attempt to continue to remove barriers at the border, Texas officials added more razor wire to the border.
In a statement, Abbott wrote a “statement on Texas’ constitutional right to self-defense,” and explained what he plans to do to protect the state.
Abbott wrote, “President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them. The result is that he has smashed records for illegal immigration.”
The New York Post reported that in just December 2023, over 300,000 migrant encounters were recorded at the border. On top of that, 2,475,669 migrant encounters were recorded during the entire year.
Abbott points out that he hand-delivered letters with Texas’s demands, but Biden ignored them. Now Abbott is calling Biden out for wasting taxpayers’ money and enticing illegal immigrants away from the legal points of entry.
To add insult to injury, Abbott explains that Biden has sent his federal lawyers to sue Texas for taking control of the border.
Governor Abbott refuses to stand down. In his statement, he explained that Biden’s failed policies have caused Abbott to invoke Articles 1 and 10, clause three, which reserves a state’s right to self-defense.
Abbott has done this to “invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself.”
In closing, Abbott wrote, “That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.”
