President Donald Trump’s campaign shared a 25-year-old letter from TV personality Oprah Winfrey that complimented him and their potential as a team despite her criticisms at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday night.
The third day of the DNC included an appearance from Winfrey where she pleaded with the audience to support Vice President Kamala Harris and expressed vitriol for Trump. In response, the Trump campaign released her 25-year-old letter showing her hypocrisy despite her claim to be an independent.
In the January 2000 letter, Winfrey referenced an excerpt of President Trump’s book “The America We Deserve” that he had sent her. In this book, Trump began to consider running for president and mentioned that Winfrey would be his top pick for vice president.
In response, Winfrey wrote, “I have to tell you, your comments made me a little weepy. It’s one thing to try and live a life of integrity — still another to have people like yourself notice. Thank you.”
Winfrey mentioned their potential as a team if Trump ran for election. “Too bad we’re not running for office. What A TEAM!”
In a post shared to social media platform X, Trump’s campaign also shared a clip from 1988 when he appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” During the clip, Winfrey suggested that he run for president.
According to Newsmax, Winfrey included in her speech, “I’m calling on all you independents and all you undecideds. You know this is true. You know I’m telling you the truth, values and character matter most of all.”
