President Trump’s successful tough-on-crime push continues to have a positive impact on local businesses, despite complaints from Celebrity chef José Andrés.
Breitbart reported that the Spanish-born chef has accused President Trump of so-called terrorizing illegal immigrants. What Andrés refers to as terrorizing is merely President Trump making the capital safer by cracking down on the rising crime in Washington, D.C., and it’s already working. In a Truth Social post, President Trump had written about the success, saying, “CRIME NUMBERS ARE WAY DOWN IN DC! AMAZING PROGRESS BEING MADE!”
But not everyone sees it that way. In a post shared on the social media platform X, Andrés had slammed President Trump and claimed that the crime crackdown is making it harder for restaurants in the capital city to make a living.
Despite the numerous reports from restaurant owners citing crime and safety as reasons for closure, Breitbart reported that Andrés claimed, “It’s a flat-out lie that half the restaurants have closed because of safety,” and told President Trump, “I understand why you are confused…all your time in DC you haven’t eaten ONCE outside the White House or your own hotel.”
Andrés had also claimed that “restaurants will close because you have troops with guns and federal agents harassing people…making people afraid to go out.”
But Andrés is incorrect. According to Fox News, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser recently praised President Trump’s crackdown after initially expressing fear over the plan. At a press conference on Wednesday, Bowser announced that carjackings have decreased by 87 percent.
“We know that when carjackings go down, when use of gun goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer. So, this surge has been important to us for that reason.” Said Bowser.
Bowser firmly believes that having more federal law enforcement officers on the street has been a success so far. She said, “We think that there is more accountability in the system, or at least perceived accountability in the system, that is driving down illegal behavior. We know that we have had fewer gun crimes, fewer homicides, and we have experienced an extreme reduction in carjackings.”
According to Breitbart, President Trump’s policy has resulted in the removal of more than a thousand criminals from the streets.
