After a long day spent in New York at yet another trial perpetrated by E. Jean Carroll, President Donald Trump took a moment to speak with the press today at 40 Wall Street from The Trump Building.
Pausing for a moment in front of a lineup of American flags, the president gave a brief but comprehensive overview of his thoughts on the court proceedings today, which clocked in as the second day in the defamation trial.
He stated, “As you know the First Lady’s mother passed away, the funeral is tomorrow. And we would have assumed with a trial like this, it’s not an emergency, in terms of timing, the judge would have been very nice and let me go.”
The president said that he had asked to delay the trial “for one day so I could go to the funeral tomorrow,” but shared that the judge presiding over the case denied the request.
Trump stated, “He said ‘Absolutely not’…he said you can go to the funeral or you can go to the trial but you can’t do both.”
Trump added, “That’s a nasty man, he’s a nasty judge…it’s obvious to everybody in the court.”
President Trump said that he was leaving imminently for New Hampshire to hold an event there on Wednesday evening before pivoting back to the events that unfolded in court during the day.
He called the trial “rigged,” and described the debacle as “election interference,” reminding the press that he had never met E. Jean Carroll before. “…Nor could I care less,” he said.
President Trump derided Carroll, describing the internal courtroom proceedings by alleging, “She got rid of a lot of evidence…the judge was protecting her.”
He continued, “The judge is totally protective of them and frankly anybody in that court would see it…[that’s] probably one of the reasons our country’s going to hell.”
President Trump also said that the only one who had “suffered damages” was him in this ongoing trial.
He concluded by acknowledging a crowd that had gathered behind the press, stating, “I’m heading out to New Hampshire, thank you very much for being back there.”
On Wednesday, President Trump reportedly sparred a little with the presiding judge in the trial. Via the Associated Press, the judge threatened to have Trump removed from the courtroom.
“I would love it,” Trump stated, per the outlet.
