President Donald Trump and Iranian officials have signed a memorandum of understanding designed to stop further escalation and establish a 60-day negotiating period aimed at reaching a broader agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and other security issues.

According to reports, the memorandum serves as a preliminary framework rather than a final peace agreement. U.S. officials described it as a mechanism to pause hostilities while negotiators work toward a more comprehensive settlement addressing long-standing disputes between Washington and Tehran.

“These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when the Stock Market Just Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are ‘tumbling’ down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” the president posted to X early Thursday.

A key component of the framework centers on Iran’s nuclear activities. Reports indicate Iran has agreed in principle to limit uranium enrichment and expand cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency as part of a verification process tied to any future sanctions relief.

Discussions are also expected to address the future of Iran’s existing stockpile of enriched uranium through monitoring, reduction, or transfer arrangements under international oversight.

The memorandum was reportedly finalized during meetings connected to the recent Group of Seven Summit in France, where Trump participated in diplomatic discussions with world leaders, including Emmanuel Macron.

Vice President JD Vance and administration officials have emphasized that any sanctions relief would remain conditional on verified Iranian compliance with negotiated benchmarks.

The framework also addresses tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor. Reports indicate that the agreement includes provisions for a phased restoration of commercial shipping through the strait and a potential easing of restrictions on Iranian oil exports if compliance requirements are met.

Mediators reportedly played a significant role in bridging disagreements over nuclear verification procedures, sanctions sequencing, and security guarantees. Negotiators are expected to continue working through those issues during the 60-day window.
