President Donald Trump said Sunday that his administration is tightening “Buy American” policies, seeking to limit federal purchases of foreign-made goods and crack down on false claims that products are made in the United States.
“ALL FEDERAL AGENCIES MUST BUY AMERICAN — NO EXCUSES!” the president wrote on social media. “For decades, Washington politicians sent your Taxpayer Dollars overseas, and let Foreign Countries rip us off while our Workers, Factories, and Supply Chains were left behind. That betrayal is OVER.”
President Trump said the administration is strengthening existing laws, reducing waivers that allow agencies to buy foreign products, and prioritizing domestic manufacturing in government procurement.
“And to the D.C. Bureaucrats: NO MORE handing out Waivers like candy!” he wrote. “No more rubber-stamping exceptions for Foreign Products while American Workers get shafted.”
The push builds on Executive Order 14392, signed in March, which directs federal agencies and the Federal Trade Commission to increase scrutiny of companies accused of falsely labeling products as American-made.
The order also calls for closer review of federal contractors and suppliers making “Made in America” claims, with potential referrals to the Department of Justice under the False Claims Act for violations.
“I already signed EO 14392 to crack down on fake ‘MADE IN AMERICA’ claims, and we are enforcing it HARD,” Trump said. “No more games. No more fake labels. No more ripping off the American Taxpayer. AMERICA FIRST means BUY AMERICAN!”
President Trump has long promoted domestic sourcing as part of his economic agenda. During his first term, he signed a 2017 executive order aimed at increasing the use of U.S.-made products in federal projects.
Some economists, however, have warned that stricter domestic sourcing requirements could raise costs by limiting competition and requiring agencies to purchase more expensive goods.
The comments also came alongside another post on Sunday by President Trump, blasting Democrats ahead of the midterms.
“The Radical Left Dumacrats must fail — Our Country is at stake!” he wrote.
