President Donald Trump said he would not sign any new bills into law until the U.S. Senate passed the Safeguard American Voters Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.
“It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE,” he wrote Sunday in a post to Truth Social.
He continued, “I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY, TRAVEL: NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS: NO TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION FOR CHILDREN! DO NOT FAIL!!!”
The U.S. House previously passed the SAVE America Act in February, sending the measure to the U.S. Senate.
The SAVE America was introduced to the Senate by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who has since received co-sponsorship or support for the bill from 50 of his other Republican Senate colleagues.
The only two Republican senators who have expressed disapproval of the bill are Sens. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska.
Likewise, Sen. Lee and the president are urging Senate colleagues to bring the bill forward through the talking filibuster, Fox News reported.
A talking filibuster would force Senate Democrats to speak continuously on the floor to delay a vote on the bill. If they give up the floor, Republicans could bypass the 60-vote threshold and pass the SAVE America Act with a simple 51-vote majority.
If passed by the Senate, the SAVE America Act would require American citizens to show valid identification and ensure that illegal immigrants do not interfere in the United States election processes, RSBN previously reported.
