Democrats in the House of Representatives are suddenly not wearing masks anymore due to a rollback on masking requirements on Tuesday. The mask mandate in the U.S. Capitol was dropped just in time for Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, drawing criticism from many conservatives who have been pushing for an end to the mask mandate for months.
For example, in February, Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., and 29 colleagues sent a bold letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., demanding that the mask mandate immediately be rescinded. However, it seems that the mask mandate was conveniently lifted before cameras rolled into the House chambers for the State of the Union.
As previously reported by RSBN, Capitol physician Brian P. Monahan claimed that new data on Covid cases in Washington D.C. was the reason for dropping the mask mandate this week. Still, many GOP politicians are suspicious of his statement. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., stated on Twitter, “The science hasn’t changed, just optics.”
Further, multiple GOP House members have been fined over the last year for refusing to comply with the mask mandates in the Capitol, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas.
According to a report from The Hill, it appears that Democrats are desperately seeking a way to put masking requirements and mask policies behind them due to the American public’s low view of masking.
For example, Democrats like Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., Speaker Pelosi, gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, Mayor Eric Adams, D-N.Y., and Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., have been caught breaking their own mask rules during the pandemic, according to a report and photos from Fox News.
Democrat lawmakers’ hypocrisy and duplicity on masking – asking Americans to mask while frequently violating mask mandates themselves – has taken a toll on Democrat popularity and credibility. According to The Hill’s report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) loosened its approach on masking last week, recommending personal preference and mask choice.
However, the CDC’s report seems to have materialized too late to save Democrats’ credibility, particularly in the House of Representatives, where the science on masking radically changed on Tuesday, just in time for Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address.
