The nation’s most popular Libertarian state affiliate endorsed President Donald Trump for president on Monday night.
A statement from the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire was released on social media to explain the reasons behind its decision and encouraged voters to choose Trump on Election Day.
“This was not a light decision. But we feel it is the right one for ourselves, for our children, and for the best future of a Free State of New Hampshire,” the statement began.
“Donald Trump is not a libertarian. Nonetheless, Trump is the best candidate for libertarians,” it continued.
Among the promises listed by the group as part of the reason for its support were Trump’s plans to appoint Elon Musk, Ron Paul and Vivek Ramaswamy to shrink the federal government, endorsements from the greatest libertarians in America, including Thomas Massie and a pledge to end the importation of anti-liberty migrants.
“Endorsing Donald Trump is in the best interests of our ultimate goal: creating a Free New Hampshire. As Free Staters, another term for libertarians who live in New Hampshire, our mission is to create a state so radically free that both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris look like communists,” the statement explained.
“We’re only part of the way there. The barbarians are at the gates. We must make sure that New Hampshire continues to repel progressives, socialists, communists, and leftists of all stripes. New Hampshire being the only red state in a blue New England helps achieve that goal,” the statement added.
The statement concluded with a strong plea for libertarians to support Trump on Election Day.
“For these reasons and more, the most popular Libertarian state affiliate in the country is endorsing Donald Trump for President. Now get out there and vote!” the statement ended.
New Hampshire has not voted for a Republican president since 2000. Polls for the state show Trump close, with the RealClearPolitics average observing Vice President Kamala Harris ahead by 3.5 percent.
Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance predicted a victory for Trump on Sunday night, including a win in the traditionally blue state of New Hampshire.
Vance spoke before a crowd in Derry on Sunday evening just two days ahead of the election.
“I believe that in two days we’re going to turn New Hampshire red and make Donald Trump the next president of the United States,” Vance told supporters in Derry on Sunday night.
