A trial centered on President Donald Trump’s potential disqualification from the 2024 ballot in Colorado will kick off this week, multiple outlets have confirmed.

The trial will take place in Denver. The suit has been brought by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), and they have alleged that Trump’s involvement in the events of Jan. 6, 2021, has made him ineligible to hold office in the United States, The Denver Post reported.

This argument is rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states that no one who has taken part in an “insurrection” is qualified to hold public office.

The outlet further revealed that the case is being overseen by District Court Judge Sarah B. Wallace, who will listen to five days’ worth of arguments for why the president should not be allowed to be on the state’s ballot next year.

This is not the first time that a Fourteenth Amendment argument has been made to try and justify stripping Trump from a 2024 ballot. The most recent was a suit brought by Texas tax consultant Anthony Castro, who alleged the same thing. As reported by RSBN, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the case in early October.

Yet another case in Florida was filed by tax attorney Lawrence Caplan earlier this year, utilizing a similar argument based on Trump’s alleged involvement in the so-called “insurrection” of Jan. 6, but a Florida judge ruled that Caplan had no standing to sue the 45th president on that matter.

Via The Denver Post, the most recent Colorado suit alleges that Trump encouraged protestors on Jan. 6, 2021, to overturn the election and enter the U.S. Capitol Building.

Interestingly, the suit also takes aim at far-left Democrat Secretary of State Jena Griswold. A favorable ruling for CREW in such a case would ensure that Griswold would be the one who would take Trump’s name off the ballot in the state.

President Trump himself has strongly stated that the lawsuits and indictments he has faced this year are the byproduct of political attacks amid his reelection bid. He stated on Monday, “These highly political (All started by Crooked Joe Biden!) Lawsuits and Indictments shouldn’t be allowed to start until AFTER THE ELECTION IS OVER! Our Founding Fathers are looking down at Biden with scorn!”
