President Donald Trump has just accused fellow GOP heavyweight Ron DeSantis of plagiarizing President Trump’s “Great American Comeback” line.
On Wednesday, President Trump tweeted out a video showing one clip of the president from 2020 and one of DeSantis just this year.
Back in 2020, President Trump proclaimed, “Three years ago we launched the great American comeback. Tonight, I stand before you to share the incredible results.”
The second portion of the clip showed the popular governor of Florida announcing, “I’m Ron DeSantis and I’m running for president to lead our great American comeback.”
In a striking similarity, both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis have used the phrase “great American comeback” in their political speeches. Trump, during his presidency, often referred to his administration’s policies as a catalyst for the “great American comeback.” DeSantis, in his recent campaign announcement, echoed this sentiment by stating his intention to lead a “great American comeback.”
Breitbart reported that Trump, as shown in the video, “used the phrase in his first sentence of the State of the Union after acknowledging then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and then-Vice President Mike Pence.”
The full remarks as given during the address were:
“Three years ago, we launched the great American comeback. Tonight, I stand before you to share the incredible results. Jobs are booming, incomes are soaring, poverty is plummeting, crime is falling, confidence is surging, and our country is thriving and highly respected again… America’s enemies are on the run, America’s fortunes are on the rise, and America’s future is blazing bright.”
It was on Wednesday that the governor shared a video on Twitter of his official announcement, as well as citing a litany of political failures, courtesy of the Biden administration, as a reason for entering the race.
RSBN reported that DeSantis officially jumped into the 2024 presidential race on Wednesday, promising supporters that he would lead the “Great American Comeback.”
