President Donald Trump said that President Joe Biden should threaten to bomb Iran if it tries to assassinate him.
Trump shared the strong words during an interview on the podcast “Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh” on Wednesday.
“Iran has an open threat out for me, and that’s bad. And Biden, if he were a real president, if he were the kind of guy he should be, he should say, ‘If anybody shoots a former president, who’s now the leading candidate, even though he’s leading against Democrats, we will bomb that country into oblivion.’ And it would stop,” Trump stated.
He argued that Biden should add a “really bad threat” that the country would be “blown to smithereens.”
The interview adds to calls from Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner for the White House to speak out against threats to kill Trump.
Turner shared his concerns on the issue during a Sunday interview on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”
“You’ve had no statements from the administration towards Iran as to what that would be, which would be an act of war, and you don’t have any statement from Vice President Harris condemning this or even recognizing that there’s an active plot from a foreign nation to kill her opponent,” Turner told Margaret Brennan.
Trump also recently spoke out about the Iranian threats against his life in a Truth Social post.
“Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before,” Trump posted last month.
“Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service – Zero ‘NO’ Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!” he added.
Iran has been a target by some leaders in Iran since his administration authorized the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps leader Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.
