Over the last week, the world has watched Democrats and their media allies in extreme panic over the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its exposure of billions in wasteful spending of American taxpayer dollars through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
President Trump called for the agency to be shut down on Friday morning in a Truth Social post.
“USAID IS DRIVING THE RADICAL LEFT CRAZY, AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE WAY IN WHICH THE MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT, SO MUCH OF IT FRAUDULENTLY, IS TOTALLY UNEXPLAINABLE. THE CORRUPTION IS AT LEVELS RARELY SEEN BEFORE. CLOSE IT DOWN!” Trump wrote.
This demand already has legs in the House, with Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., introducing a bill on Wednesday to shut down USAID for good.
In a press release, Steube wrote, “For too long, USAID has funneled billions of American tax dollars into bloated, inefficient foreign aid programs that are riddled with waste, corruption and ideological bias.”
He noted that initiatives funded by USAID around the globe are “out of touch with the values and interests of our nation,” and emphasized that “these dollars frequently end up in the hands of bad actors who do not have America’s interests in mind and misuse the funds for purposes far removed from their original intent.”
Steube’s legislation deems the State Department as the overseer of “necessary functions related to essential foreign aid transitions,” according to the press release.
The move would ensure “a streamlined and more accountable approach to international engagement.”
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-KY., announced on Thursday that he signed on as a cosponsor of the two-page bill.
“I just cosponsored Rep. Greg Steube’s bill to abolish the United States Agency for International Development (USAID),” he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“USAID sends billions of American tax dollars overseas. When it spends at home, it’s subsidizing subscriptions for left-leaning outlets like Politico. End USAID.” Massie wrote.
DOGE head Elon Musk gave his stamp of approval for the agency’s abolishment after spending the last several days combing through its data.
Musk has highlighted a massive number of illicit and wasteful spending at USAID on his X profile during the course of DOGE’s review.
