President Donald Trump called on Joe Biden to “resign in disgrace” over his mishandling of the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan which led to the Taliban’s takeover of the country.
“It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed to happen to Afghanistan, along with the tremendous surge in COVID, the Border catastrophe, the destruction of energy independence, and our crippled economy,” Trump wrote in his Save America PAC on Sunday.
“It shouldn’t be a big deal, because he wasn’t elected legitimately in the first place!” he continued, blasting the administration.
Trump suggested Biden should resign after the Taliban quickly took control of Afghanistan, including the capital city of Kabul, endangering thousands of American citizens. Afghanistan’s own president, Ashraf Ghani, fled the country on Sunday.
The intensifying situation in Afghanistan comes amid the Biden administration’s decision to withdraw remaining American troops from the country by Aug. 31.
However, as threats of Taliban violence rose, the Biden administration deployed thousands of additional troops to Kabul over the weekend to help evacuate the U.S. Embassy and help Americans leave the country.
Biden’s decision to quickly withdraw troops from Afghanistan was based on his assurance that the Taliban takeover was “not inevitable” as he said during a press conference in July.
Biden’s miscalculation will be in the coming days, the Taliban reportedly plans to declare the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
