President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that former Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake will lead the federally funded Voice of America.

Trump posted a statement congratulating Lake on his Truth Social profile Wednesday afternoon.

“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote.

“Kari was a beloved News Anchor in Arizona, which supported me by record margins, for over 20 years,” he continued. “Congratulations Kari!”

Lake was previously rumored as Trump’s ambassador to Mexico.

“Kari Lake is a leading contender for the nomination as Donald Trump’s ambassador to Mexico, two people familiar with the situation told Semafor,” the outlet reported on Monday.

“Lake won Trump’s endorsement in both her unsuccessful bids for statewide office in Arizona. The former news anchor and vocal proponent of stringent border security lost an Arizona Senate bid last month to Democratic Sen.-elect Ruben Gallego,” it added.

Formerly a news anchor for Phoenix Fox affiliate KSAV-TV, she lost a close battle for governor against Democrat Katie Hobbs, though she refused to concede the race. She followed the loss with her 2024 run for the Senate. Lake won the primary but lost in the general election despite Trump winning Arizona’s electoral votes.

Trump later announced his former U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador Ron Johnson as his nominee for the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico.

“Ron will work closely with our great Secretary of State Nominee, Marco Rubio, to promote our Nation’s security and prosperity through strong America First Foreign Policies. During my First Term, Ron served as the Ambassador to El Salvador, where he worked tirelessly with Salvadoran authorities and our team to reduce violent crime and illegal migration to the lowest levels in History,” Trump wrote.

“He also served our Country for over twenty years with the Central Intelligence Agency after a distinguished career in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret. He graduated from the National Intelligence University with a Master of Strategic Intelligence,” he continued.
