President Donald Trump on Tuesday addressed the horrific murder of a young Ukrainian woman in Charlotte, North Carolina, calling for a continued crackdown on violent crime, and to mete out justice to those who commit such heinous acts.
The White House posted a video of the president addressing rising crime, where he strongly condemned the murder of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old woman who was brutally stabbed on Charlotte’s light rail system by alleged suspect Decarlos Brown – a man who had been previously arrested 14 times.
The senseless killing took place in a matter of moments, and it’s unclear what Brown’s alleged motivation was, other than that he could.
“For far too long, Americans have been forced to put up with Democrat-run cities that set loose savage, bloodthirsty criminals to prey on innocent people,” the president said in his video statement, filmed in the Oval Office. “…In every place they control radical left judges, politicians, and activities, and they’ve adopted a policy of catch and release for thugs and killers.”
President Trump pointed to the horrific murder of Zartuska as an example of a result of these soft-on-crime policies.
He continued, “She was slaughtered by a deranged monster who was roaming free after 14 prior arrests. We cannot allow a depraved criminal element of violent repeat offenders to continue spreading destruction and death throughout our country. We have to respond with force and strength; we have to be vicious, just like they are – it’s the only thing they understand.”
The president called the violent crime across America “madness” and said it was time for the people “to insist on protection, safety, law, and order.”
“We have proven that it can be done, because we did it right here in D.C.,” he said, highlighting the federalized crime crackdown of the nation’s capital.
The president pressured Democrat-run cities to ask him for help in cleaning violence from the streets in places like Chicago – assistance that he would be more than willing to give.
“We’ll do what has to be done, because we’re going to make America safe again, and that includes our big cities – we’re going to make our cities safe,” he said.
