President Trump is looking forward to continuing productive trade negotiations with India. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump expressed his gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Modi and stated his hope that the two countries will be able to reach a mutually beneficial deal.

“I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” Trump said. “I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries.”

The trade negotiations signal significant progress in negotiations between the U.S. and India, particularly in recent months after the implementation of tariffs and counter-tariffs between the two countries.

Issues to be addressed include the trade of both agricultural products and oil. The U.S. seeks to lower prices of American farm and dairy products, while India seeks economic protections for its domestic farmers. Trump has also sought to curb India’s reliance on Russian oil, which has served as a major source of income for funding Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Prime Minister Modi echoed President Trump’s comments in his own social media post, which Trump also shared on Truth Social.

“India and the U.S. are close friends and natural partners,” Prime Minister Modi said. “I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the U.S.-India partnership.”

Modi indicated negotiations would be forthcoming and signaled his hope that a mutually beneficial deal could be reached.

“Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,” Modi said.
