A little over one year since Truth Social’s initial launch on the Apple App Store, President Trump heralded the success of the social media network with a post on the site that he kickstarted to amplify free speech.
“‘TRUTH’ SOCIAL HAS BECOME THE HOTTEST THING GOING,” he wrote. “I SAY IT LIKE IT IS!”
Truth Social was launched by President Trump as an alternative to Big Tech censorship on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The app was originally available to iOS users only in February 2022.
From there, the app expanded its reach, eventually reaching all phone users by Fall of 2022. The site is also available for traditional desktop users.
The app rocketed to number one in the Apple App Store upon its initial release. As reported by RSBN, their goal at that time was to be “basically fully operational” by the end of March 2022.
In October 2022, Truth Social topped the charts in the Google Play Store, earning record downloads. Per RSBN, Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes told Just the News that the Google Play launch heralded “a significant milestone in our mission to restore free speech online.”
Truth has enjoyed record levels of traffic and engagement since its launch. In January, the site raked in massive numbers of new users during Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, as President Trump delivered real-time reactions to Americans via the platform.
The official Truth Social account wrote later, “Thank you to our wonderful users for helping Truth Social hit RECORD traffic levels during last night’s State of the Union address. It was a great night for free speech — and there are many more to come.”
Truth Social is unique in that it offers a social media experience that is free from the threat of censorship and disinformation. It is also the only social media site with a direct line of access to President Donald Trump.
Despite the president’s recent social media reinstatements to Big Tech platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, he has chosen to remain on Truth Social to reach Americans with his statements and videos.
