President Trump is continuing to secure endorsements as the 2024 elections draw near, specifically now from two former presidential candidates.
Last week Michigan businessman Perry Johnson announced the suspension of his campaign on X, formally known as Twitter, and gave his full support to the 45th president stating Trump is the only candidate who “can provide a solution” to the growing issues within the United States.
“After suspending my campaign for President on Friday, there is now only one candidate in this race who can provide a solution to our nation’s economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat Joe Biden at the ballot box,” Johnson wrote. “That person is Donald Trump.”
Following Johnson’s step down, another notable Republican figure, political commentator and talk radio host, Larry Elder, announced the suspension of his campaign last week as well. With his announcement, Elder additionally endorsed Trump giving the former president his “full support.”
“He has my full support to Make America Great Again, end the epidemic of fatherless homes, reign in spending, and restore law & order,” Elder wrote in a post on X.
“Now that I am exiting the race, I am proud to announce my endorsement of Donald Trump for President of the United States. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing conservative, America-first principles and policies that have benefited our great nation,” Elder continued.
Elder came into the California political spotlight after running as a candidate in a 2021 California recall election against current Gov. Gavin Newsom. While he did not win the race, Elder remained in politics announcing his run for president in April 2023.
Since dropping from the race, Elder has become the fourth major GOP presidential candidate to exit the race, according to Axios, and now the second to endorse Trump.
“We must unite behind Donald Trump to beat Joe Biden and fight back against Biden’s unprecedented election interference and the left’s destruction of America,” Elder stated.
As the 2024 election race continues, Trump is leading both the GOP primary nominee polls as well as general election polls.
The former president currently sits at 56.9 percent for the Republican primary election, according to FiveThirtyEight research, leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by roughly 42 points. As for a general election prediction, polling from McLaughlin & Associates shows Trump leading Biden by three points.
